Feathr Briefing

Helsinki based company Feathr came in to give a talk on their creative wallpaper brief, which can be used for our responsive module.
Feathr help distribute wallpaper designed by artists for peoples homes.
"We create, curate and sell wallpaper artists designed wallpaper"

Design Considerations
Limited art work space
How will it scale up on a wall, how it be enlarged?
Think about it being repeated

Artists such as Mark Denton, Askew, wood dead and super mundane are involved with feathr.
There is 5% revenue for every item sold on feathr's website. Which is better than a lot of other website out there that host other artist's designs.

Feathr only print using digital print resources.
So there isn't really any limitations for colour.

The Brief
Target Audience/Customer
30 - 35 years old
Stylish young home owners who want something unique on their walls
They are thrift shoppers, design aficionados, savvy and story seekers

Context
Tell a story & have a concept
Be the talking point in the room.
Think about scale & context
Deception, how its seen from up close and from a distance
Depth - Subtle parallax?
Repetition Quarter Drop? Half Drop? Mirror?
Dont Fear Colour
Variation
(jake dinos chapman)
 (timorous besties)
 (Tony Roche)
Cole & Sons - Woods
Immensely popular, mainly because the trees in the background gave the artwork more depth.

Specs
53cm x 10m wallpaper roll
Roll width is 53cm
Length is 10m
Although 75cm is the most used vertical length that is seen to be best for repetitive patterns.
Repeats can be straight matches, offset matches, half drops, mirrored etc.

WHATS THE STORY BEHIND IT?
Tom from feathr emphasised on the point of having a story behind the design for the wallpaper. Having a design with a story or a concept behind it would definitely help push it forward and attract more attention. This brief allows for a lot of room to experiment. Creating depth within the patterns is something that I'm going to consider. I want to incorporate an illustration style to this project, although I might create a more digital based design to be included. The faces I draw within my sketch books and have used for other briefs, is something I might include within the wallpaper pattern.
