Colour Gamut, allows you to check the range of CMYK colours.
Silver overlay represents all of the RGB colours that cant be printed.
To clear some of the silver overlay, you can adjust the brightness and contrast to help. Hue can also be used.
Proof colours allows you to work in RBG, but what your seeing on screen is how it will look when it will convert to CMYK. This method allows you to see how the final CMYK print will turn out and won't create any unwanted colour shifts in your work as you are seeing the CMYK colours when working.
Photoshop's preferred use is in RGB mode as they are more things available to use for it in photoshops options, also CMYK file sizes are usually much bigger.
To delete swatches in Photoshop you select alt and then click on them to delete.
Pressing D on the keyboard resets the foreground/background colour to black and whiteYou have to have one swatch in the palette to be able to save it. You can't save a blank palette.
Once the palette is empty you can click within the empty palette space and it allows you to save a new swatch and it will include one swatch.
When selecting colours in the colour picker a symbol appears on the right of the preview box. This symbol warns you that the colour you are viewing will not print. Once clicking on the symbol it shifts the colour to the nearest acceptable colour for print.
