Decided to try the fold I stumbled when researching online. I examined the images and figured out how to do my own fold. It really wasn't too difficult, I had to draw lines on a piece of paper into thirds each way. Creating 9 rectangle boxes. Using a scalpel to cut out the corner boxes and then making diagonal cuts on the other rectangles that surround the centre. I'm certain I'll use this fold as part of my final leaflet. This will cover the main leaflet with content.
I also had the idea of drawing a face on top of the cover, so you unravel the face to get to my design process leaflet. The reason being because I draw a lot of faces whilst working and thinking. It's also a part of my identity somewhat, as I have used faces for other projects too, including Secret 7. This also adds to fact it's my very own design process, it makes it more personal.
I want my content/folded leaflet to go inside the folded cover.
I followed the instructions in the book and made a couple on different materials/stocks. The fold was pretty easy to do. After marking the centre of the page and folding one side diagonally over to meet the middle, the rest of the folds are very simple. However the last fold is quite tough to perform, you have to tuck it in carefully and it sometimes takes a few attempts to do.
Stock I'm thinking of using. I don't want to use a vibrant colour palette for my stock, I want to stick with off whites, greys and maybe even slate coloured blues.
Experimenting and testing out the folds on different stock and paper sizes
Developing ideas for the design of the content inside the leaflet and for the front cover.
Feedback
Today we had our crit and people seemed to like the folds I had chosen to use and thought that they were interactive and kept the user engaged, of which is what I was hoping for. I mentioned I wasn't 100 percent sure on what stock to use, but that I wanted off white/grey and maybe blue. However I said blue would be hard to do If I was to print black on top. People suggested to try out tracing paper., which I think I will try out. I also told them that I wanted to use a wrapping paper print of my drawing faces inside the leaflet behind the content. They liked the idea and said that I could emboss the pattern of faces. I considered embossing for a little while but I think it would be too much for the little time I have for this 1 week task. Also if the leaflet is getting folded all the time wouldn't be worth the effort of embossing the paper for it to deteriorate slowly. I still have to decide on the content, design the content, develop it further and print it. So I have a lot of thinking to do yet still.
