Ilford
Ilford is by far my favourite photographic company, not just because of their film, but because of the effective branding that has been put to use throughout their collection of photographic products.
The contrast of black on white works well and catches the eye. The simple use of colours works very well too, defining the different formats and speeds of their film. I've looked into their products more so than other companies because their well established aesthetic is something I admire a lot and would want my logo to take influence from. I also think Kentmere shares a similar look in terms of simplicity within Ilford. It grabs your attention and tells you what the product is clearly.
Kodak
Kodak have received a range of branding alterations in the past, which have all in my opinion been very successful. Their identity has always remained to be effective. The older kodak packaging has beautiful use of printed type and their trademark yellow colour has been bold and efficacious throughout. Kodak have had a strong range of photographic film from Portra, Ektar and Tri-X, which each have a different look to the packaging. In comparison to Ilford, kodak has quite a bit of differentiation in the designs used on their different types of film. Whereas Ilford has an aesthetic that follows throughout their packaging, which just incorporates the use of simple colours, lines and shapes that lets the audience know which film is which. I wanted to include the Kodak because I think their ethos is classic and enduring. They are a company who have stood the test of time and are still prominent.
Here is a Kodak folder that holds pictures. I found this in the summer whilst looking through old family photos. The colours and type used looks so good! Its very simple use of type and colour is so powerful. The words "They come out best on" and kodak film icon have quite a warming charm to them too! I was so glad when I found this picture folder. Old kodak materials/packaging are timeless.
