Here are some examples of work that I don't particularly like. I'm all for interesting and colourful geometric patterns that are nice to look at, but sometimes they can become more of an eye sore. I also don't like the typical rustic look wallpapers and fake textures people mash together on wallpaper designs. I also despise floral and weird ornate designs that are often seen on wallpapers. They are way overdone and come across too twee, which is something I don't like.
Below are other examples wallpaper design which I find more interesting and alluring. In order to create an effective design, it has to be captivating. It can't be too distracting and it can't be a design which is hard to look at. However feathr wallpaper isn't likely to be used to fill all 4 walls of a room, it's most likely to be used for one wall or a section. So it's more lenient for confusing designs that can mess with your perception.
The main idea I want to carry out with this project is to use the faces I draw and create a design with them. One of the key parts of a successful wallpaper design is having a seamless pattern so when pasted up on the wall, it fits in together. I aim to make a seamless design with my illustrations.
I found a book called 'design patterns for decoration, fashion and graphics', which displayed some great examples of wallpaper design. The use of shapes, objects and colours all work well. The designs in the book are aesthetically pleasing and good examples of attractive wallpapers.
In this book I discovered a page that informed you on a technique which can help you create seamless patterns. This might become of use after I scan my illustrations and place them into photoshop.
